SCHOOL WORKSHOPS

Since 2002, award-winning theatre-maker James Hancox has delivered workshops for a wide range of students and educational institutions – inviting them to explore their creativity through physical theatre, improvisation and devising. Building on his extensive career making imaginative and often immersive performance, he brings a wealth of practical knowledge to the classroom.

The following workshops are modified to suit the curriculum needs of each class – with a focus on Complicité, Jacques Lecoq, Steven Berkoff and/or Frantic Assembly for students working towards the ATAR curriculum.

  • Devising Physical Theatre

In this workshop, we explore all stages of the devising process as students create epic stories using just their bodies. With an emphasis on ensemble and pair work, they’ll co-operate to generate ideas from movement – and then develop them to create a performance.

  • Physical Comedy & Mime

Find your funny in this workshop exploring clown, mime and ‘le jeu’ (play). After preparing their body through articulation and isolation work, students explore their connection with the audience – before putting everything together to create imaginary spaces and absurd scenes in them.

  • Movement for Actors

Inspire your students to connect with their bodies and explore how they might better use them in creating bold characters and stories. Using exercises from key physical theatre practitioners, they’ll develop an awareness of their unique physicality and explore tools to use it in their own work.

  • The Improv Toolkit

Students will explore the skills required to improvise on stage or in the rehearsal room. Through practical games and activities, they will learn how to give and accept offers, collaborate effectively and make bold choices in the moment.

All workshops cost $250 per hour + GST.

For groups of 25+ prices may vary.
